This dissertation aims to investigate the relationship between the symbolist author Andrei Bely and the near East at the beginning of the 20th century. Firstly, through a historical and literary journey we will try to understand what are the ties of Russia with the countries of the east, especially with China and Japan. Then, by consulting Belyj's novel "Petersburg", we will find the author's thoughts and we will try to understand his position, be it positive or negative, towards the yellow peril, or the eastern threat in Russia.
