Even though the Islamic presence in Italy is a well-established and constantly growing phenomenon, the challenges that this group of the population faces in terms of identity, social, cultural, religious and discriminatory issues, are still only limitedly investigated by scientific research. In particular, the identity question in Italo-Muslim young adults raises several interrogatives that need further investigation. This thesis is part of the research project "IMAGE - Identity between culture and religion", coordinated by Prof. Moscardino, which aims to investigate the role of certain individual and social factors in the development of identity in young adults of Muslim faith who were born, grew up and/or currently reside in Italy. The project aims to explore the subjective experience of the participants with respect to their identity and the relationship with their religious and cultural background. Specifically, the aim of this paper is to analyse the identity processes and the conciliation strategies between the different identity belongings - cultural, national and religious - adopted by the participants. Through the analysis of the identity maps drawn by 29 Italo-Muslim young adults - 16 of whom were female and 13 male - three types of identity emerged: integrated (62.1 %), parallel (27.6 %) and conflictual (10.3%). The implications of these findings are discussed in this paper.

Abstract
The implications of these findings are discussed in this paper.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
