Lying is a central aspect of life, which is why scholars have long studied what is the correct definition of lying and what are the most adeguate techniques to discover lies. The aim of this study is to test a lie detection technique: the analysis of response latencies. The idea is to confirm whether dishonest people are slower than honest ones in answering unexpected questions or not. Recent studies demonstrate that answering unexpected questions is more cognitively demanding than answering expected ones; that’s why people who lie should show a more extended response latency.
