This paper describes the professional contribution of the physiotherapist in a healthcare organization, specifically in the assessment of work-related risk determined by the assumption of incongruous postures during the work activities of healthcare professionals, both in the manual handling of loads and in static-type activities. In particular, the role acted by the physiotherapist emerges not only in the analysis of risk in the nursing staff of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the I.R.C.C.S. maternal infant Burlo Garofolo in Trieste, but also in identifying possible solutions and improvement plans with the implementation of an innovative device for the execution of the care of preterm infants suitable to eliminate the risk from incongruous postures. This paper describes the phases of risk detection and assessment, the ideation phase, the design phase, the search for economic funds for the realization of the prototype, market research among manufacturing companies, and finally risk assessment in the use of the realized device. The result achieved is an effective reduction of risk from incongruous postures in the work activity under investigation. The skills inherent in the professional profile of the physical therapist combined with the managerial skills expressed added value to risk management, also defining a prevention strategy from the perspective of age management within a health care organization.
