Offshoring is a phenomenon which consists in transferring some of the production and commercial activities to a foreign country. This strategy was very popular around the '80s as it allowed companies to reduce costs, open to new markets and consequently become more global. Recently, however, there has been a trend reversal. Due to the numerous risks associated with off-shoring and the external exogenous shocks, a lot of companies are undertaking reshoring strategies, bringing back home those activities previuosly relocated to foreign countries. In the paper, the main objective is to offer an overview of this phenomen thanks to surveys and statistics, subsequently focusing on a specific sector, that of cars.
