Caratteristiche fonetiche del tedesco austriaco

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to identify the main phonetic characteristics of Austrian German, as opposed to German German, underlining how Austrian German builds a language variety on its own. The first part of this work deals with the consonants of the Austrian phonetic system by describing them and then identifying cases of allophony and phonological mutations according to the markedness theory. The second chapter is about Austrian vowels, which are analyzed with greater precision due to the wide number of studies on the subject. The vowel classification through the marked-unmarked opposition has changed throughout the years, especially thanks to the contributions of professor Sylvia Moosmüller. Then, coarticulation and some phonological mutations of vowels are analyzed. The last part of the chapter deals with some aspects of Austrian prosody. The final chapter draws a brief summary of the main differences of pronunciation between Austrian German and German German.

Il fine di questa tesi di laurea è quello di individuare le principali caratteristiche fonetiche del tedesco austriaco, che lo distinguono dal tedesco standard di Germania rendendolo una varietà a sé stante. Una prima parte dell’elaborato è dedicata alle consonanti del sistema fonetico austriaco, fornendone una rassegna e poi andando ad individuare alcuni casi di allofonia e di mutamento fonologico attraverso la teoria della marcatezza. Il secondo capitolo tratta, invece, delle vocali, che vengono analizzate con maggiore precisione visti i numerosi studi a riguardo. Viene spiegato come la classificazione a tratti delle vocali sia cambiata nel corso del tempo, grazie specialmente al contributo fornito a quest’area di studi dalla professoressa Sylvia Moosmüller. Successivamente, ci si concentra sul fenomeno di coarticolazione e sull’analisi a tratti di alcuni mutamenti fonologici delle vocali. L’ultima parte del capitolo riguarda alcune caratteristiche di prosodia del tedesco austriaco. Il capitolo finale realizza un breve riassunto in chiave contrastiva delle differenze nella pronuncia tra il tedesco austriaco e il tedesco di Germania.
