This thesis is about Macrospondilus bollensis, a species of marine crocodile belonging to the clade Teleosauroidea of the lower Jurassic found in the locality of Holzmaden in Germany, in the Posidonia Shale. Since they discovered the first specimens, the various species of Teleosauroidea have been subjected to multitudes of revisions and reclassifications over the years, and so it was also for the species examined in this thesis. Therefore, this document illustrates the characteristics that are fundamental to be bale to identify and describe the specimen of M. bollensis. Furthermore, it is also of considerable importance the analisy of the geological context in which this fossil was formed and was found; thus, the geological formation of the Posidonia Shale will be described, also dealing with the ecological environment and the taphonomy involved in the various fossil remains found here, as well as any taxa of vertebrates and invertebrates involved in relations with the Teleosauroids in their moments of life or during their process of decomposition and/or fossilization.
