The Ku Klux Klan is a secret society founded in 1866 in the United States of America. Members within this association (called Klansmans) come together for political purposes to defend their homeland, advocating the superiority of the white race, and following racist and nationalist ideals. The history of the KKK is not only characterized by violent and terrorist acts, but also by direct and/or indirect actions that have led to political consequences, including the election of members of the US Senate. Despite attempts to block its actions, the Klan has managed to survive to the present day by invoking the US First Amendment, which guarantees freedom of Speech and freedom of association.
Il Ku Klux Klan è una società segreta nata nel 1866 negli Stati Uniti d’America. I membri all’interno di questa associazione (chiamati Klansmans) si riuniscono per fini politici per la difesa della loro patria, sostenendo la superiorità della razza bianca, seguendo ideali razzisti e nazionalisti. La storia del KKK non è solo segnata da atti violenti e terroristici, ma anche da azioni dirette e/o indirette che hanno portato a delle conseguenze politiche, tra cui le elezioni di alcuni membri del Senato degli Stati Uniti. Nonostante i tentativi per bloccare il suo operato, il Klan è riuscito a sopravvivere fino ai giorni d’oggi appellandosi al Primo Emendamento americano, che garantisce la libertà di espressione e la libertà di associazione.
