This work intends to consider one of the most significant analyzes of Thomas Hobbes's Leviathan from the 20th century: the essay On the Leviathan (1938) by Carl Schmitt. Schmitt's text does not have a simple philological interest on the Hobbesian work, but it is a philosophical and theoretical comparison that allows to highlight the fundamental concepts of the modern doctrine of the State, and possibly its limits, aporias and contradictions. The comparison between these two authors allows us to investigate one of the essential questions of the modern political philosophy: "what is meant by political representation?". On the one hand Hobbes, the author who inaugurated modern political conceptuality, on the other Schmitt who, witnessing firsthand the crisis of the state-form in the 1900s, researched its causes remote through the analysis of its conceptual genesis.

Abstract
This work intends to consider one of the most significant analyzes of Thomas Hobbes's Leviathan from the 20th century: the essay On the Leviathan (1938) by Carl Schmitt. Schmitt's text does not have a simple philological interest on the Hobbesian work, but it is a philosophical and theoretical comparison that allows to highlight the fundamental concepts of the modern doctrine of the State, and possibly its limits, aporias and contradictions. The comparison between these two authors allows us to investigate one of the essential questions of the modern political philosophy: "what is meant by political representation?". On the one hand Hobbes, the author who inaugurated modern political conceptuality, on the other Schmitt who, witnessing firsthand the crisis of the state-form in the 1900s, researched its causes remote through the analysis of its conceptual genesis.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
