Abstract
Colonial ardeids and phalacrocoracids, in the territory of the Rovigo province show interspecific competition at various levels, expecially in egreteries. Historical data from censuses highlight trends of increase and decrease of breeding populations, linked to the number of pairs of grey heron Ardea cinerea and great cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo towards the other species present. The great cormorant also causes damage to the vegetation, which is often damaged to the point of dying and vanishing, thus compromising the nesting sites. Factors influencing reproductive success and the availability of sites suitable for the breeding of the species under consideration are identified and possible solutions to the problem are provided.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
