Over the years, there has been an exponential increase in the use of networked multimedia content, both for streaming and on-demand applications. Video content accounts for a large share of online traffic, as shown by the CISCO Annual Internet Report; the H.265 and H.266 video encoding standards have brought brought to light new techniques for video encoding. Although there are many new technologies introduced, in this thesis we will focus on studying the introduced Intra coding techniques and then analyze their performance experimentally, as these techniques are useful not only for video coding but also for image coding. The two standards will be compared using the FFmpeg suite, analyzing various parameters, including bit-rate and PSNR of the videos.
Nel corso degli anni, è aumentato esponenzialmente l’utilizzo dei contenuti multimediali in rete, sia per applicazioni in streaming che on-demand. I contenuti video rappresentano una grande fetta del traffico online, come mostrato dal CISCO Annual Internet Report; gli standard di codifica video H.265 e H.266 hanno portato alla luce nuove tecniche per la codifica video. Sebbene le nuove tecnologie introdotte siano molte, nel corso di questa tesi ci si soffermerà nello studiare le tecniche di codifica Intra introdotte, per poi analizzare le loro prestazioni sperimentalmente, in quanto queste tecniche sono utili non solo per la codifica video, ma anche per la codifica di immagini. Verranno messi a confronto i due standard utilizzando la suite FFmpeg, analizzando vari parametri, tra cui bit-rate e PSNR dei video.
