The thesis deals with fire-fighting aircraft, with particular attention to the Canadair CL-415, an amphibious aircraft designed specifically for this type of mission. The first chapter quickly describes different types of aircraft and helicopters used for extinguishing fires, most of which were born as cargo aircraft and then used to transport water or other extinguishing agents. Subsequently, the Canadair Cl-415, an airplane designed to carry out firefighting missions, is analyzed in detail. The on-board systems of the aircraft will be illustrated, highlighting in particular the fire extinguishing system, which includes the water suction system (scooping) and the water storage system. The firefighting maneuvers, the specifications for collecting water and the use of fire-fighting foam are then described. Finally are discussed the main problems facing the aircraft and the risks to which pilots.
