This master thesis work is focused on the reprocessing of 2D seismic data for the search of gas hydrates in the Eastern Mediterranean region. The dataset of the line MS-52 has been acquired through the reflection seismic technique in the Nile deep-sea fan in 1973. Data have been reprocessed by the use of the software Seismic Unix developed by Colorado School of Mines. The reprocessing of the data is composed by the following steps: quality control of the data, geometry assignment, noise removal, spherical divergence correction, application of filters and automatic gain control (AGC), pre-stack time migration and post-processing steps. The results show that the reflector taken into consideration is a lithological reflector and not a bottom simulating reflection (BSR) because it is continuous, it does not imitate the shape of the sea floor and it does not present an inverse polarity. Even if the BSR is not present, it is not excluded the existence of gas hydrates in the area of the MS-52 line. However, the water conditions are not favorable.

Abstract
However, the water conditions are not favorable.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
