Given the definition of scarcity, of Mullainathan and Sharif, where it is defined as a state of mind that shapes the way we deal with problems and situations. The paper aims to investigate the effect of economic scarcity in the choice between paying in instalments or paying in a single solution and whether these choices are mediated by the form in which the information on interest is expressed (percentage or not). The purpose of this research is to study whether people, in economic scarcity, tend to prefer payment in instalments as scarcity prevents them from having a clear idea of the costs of long-term interest; helped by the fact that the percentage is not an expression of family costs for many people, this, in fact, could reduce the feeling of losing money. To investigate the research question a questionnaire was used where the perception of economic scarcity (vs. control) was manipulated with a recall task. The questionnaire then asked participants to choose between payment in instalments (expressed as a percentage or with the interest already calculated) or payment in a single solution of several items. In addition, various measuring scales were considered in the questionnaire: Emotional Intelligence Questionnaires, because there is evidence that people who have a high score on the test are more likely to have better results under pressure, a test for mathematical skills and one for financial skills to evaluate the skills of participants.

Abstract
In addition, various measuring scales were considered in the questionnaire: Emotional Intelligence Questionnaires, because there is evidence that people who have a high score on the test are more likely to have better results under pressure, a test for mathematical skills and one for financial skills to evaluate the skills of participants.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
