Impero romano e popolazioni germaniche: interazioni culturali e linguistiche

This thesis aims to analyze the cultural and linguistic interactions between the Roman Empire and the Germanic populations during the transitional period between the decline of the Western Roman Empire and the early Middle Ages. The main objective is to understand the mutual influence these two entities had on each other and examine the dynamics that led to the formation of new cultural and linguistic frameworks in the region. Through a rigorous analysis of primary sources, including historical texts, letters, inscriptions, and archaeological artifacts, the study will explore the different phases of interaction between the Roman Empire and the Germanic populations. It will highlight the cultural elements that facilitated the assimilation of Roman influences by the Germanic peoples, as well as the adoption of Germanic cultural elements within Roman society. Furthermore, special attention will be given to the linguistic dimension of these interactions. The linguistic evidence attesting to exchanges between Latin and Germanic languages will be analyzed, along with the transformations that such influences brought about in the linguistic systems of the involved populations. By examining the works of authors from the period, the thesis will delve into the relationships between Romans and Germanic peoples, their mutual perceptions, and the cultural impacts that ensued. The findings of this research will contribute to a better understanding of the cultural and linguistic relations between the Roman Empire and the Germanic populations, shedding light on one of the crucial periods in European history and providing a more comprehensive picture of the region's cultural and linguistic evolution.

La presente tesi si propone di analizzare le interazioni culturali e linguistiche tra l'Impero Romano e le popolazioni germaniche durante il periodo di transizione tra la fine dell'Impero Romano d'Occidente e l'inizio dell'alto Medioevo. L'obiettivo principale è quello di comprendere l'influenza reciproca che queste due entità hanno avuto l'una sull'altra e di esaminare le dinamiche che hanno portato alla formazione di nuovi assetti culturali e linguistici nella regione. Attraverso una rigorosa analisi di fonti primarie, tra cui testi storici, lettere, iscrizioni e manufatti archeologici, si esploreranno le diverse fasi di interazione tra l'Impero Romano e le popolazioni germaniche. Si metteranno in luce gli elementi culturali che hanno favorito sia l'assimilazione delle influenze romane da parte dei Germani, sia l'adozione di elementi culturali germanici nella società romana. Inoltre, si presterà particolare attenzione alla dimensione linguistica di queste interazioni. Si analizzeranno le evidenze linguistiche che testimoniano gli scambi tra il latino e le lingue germaniche, nonché le trasformazioni che tali influenze hanno determinato nei sistemi linguistici delle popolazioni coinvolte. Attraverso l'esame delle opere di autori dell'epoca, si approfondiranno i rapporti tra Romani e Germani, le percezioni reciproche e gli impatti culturali che ne sono derivati. I risultati di questa ricerca contribuiranno a una migliore comprensione delle relazioni culturali e linguistiche tra l'Impero Romano e le popolazioni germaniche, gettando luce su uno dei periodi cruciali della storia europea e offrendo un quadro più completo dell'evoluzione culturale e linguistica della regione.
