Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), the film directed by Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan which won 7 awards at the 2023 Oscars, is characterised by an undeniable exploration of hybridising film genres. This dissertation aims to analyse the use of comedy within the combination of different genres and its function in the narrative economy of the film. The first part of this thesis will introduce the debate on film genres, specifically referencing Rick Altman's proposal in A Semantic/Syntactic Approach to Film Genre (1984) and Film/Genre (1999). Additionally, we will explore the points of view of several authors, including Henri Bergson, Mikhail Bakhtin, and Luigi Pirandello, whose reflections on humour are relevant to the analysis of this film. The second part of the dissertation will focus on the selected case study, providing a compilation of articles and reviews that support the film's hybrid and multifaceted use of genres as a distinctive element. This compilation will then serve as a basis for the examination of four sequences within the film that demonstrate three different comedic modulations.

Abstract
This compilation will then serve as a basis for the examination of four sequences within the film that demonstrate three different comedic modulations.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
