Today, the Czech Republic, born out of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, is a democratic State and member of NATO and the European Union. The Czech Republic, however, has become a part of Western society only in recent times considering that its NATO and EU membership date back respectively to 1999 and 2004. The time period, during which the Czechs were part of the Eastern Bloc is longer in comparison: Czechoslovakia was a socialist State from 1948 (after a coup led by Czechoslovak communists) to 1989, the year in which the Iron Curtain fell and the so called “Velvet Revolution” took place in Prague. The goal of this research is to illustrate the historic events that led to the Velvet Revolution and to verify how relevant the Revolution is in today’s Czech society. Therefore, the research question is as follows: Has the Velvet Revolution had impact on the Czech people’s political opinion? To answer the research question, multiple bibliographic sources related to various points in czechoslovak history (such as the 1948 Communist Coup, the 1968 Prague Spring and the 1989 Velvet Revolution) have been consulted and the information obtained was used to contextualize the current political development of the Czech Republic.

Abstract
To answer the research question, multiple bibliographic sources related to various points in czechoslovak history (such as the 1948 Communist Coup, the 1968 Prague Spring and the 1989 Velvet Revolution) have been consulted and the information obtained was used to contextualize the current political development of the Czech Republic.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
