The present dissertation, entitled “This is our body. A glottodidactic proposal in English to encourage the development of the body schema in a kindergarten" aims at exploring the theme of teaching English in a preschool context, emphasizing the educational value that language possesses. Specifically, it intends to demonstrate how it is possible to promote the development of the body schema through activities in a foreign language such as English, and, at the same time promoting linguistic skills and a positive attitude towards the foreign language. This thesis is structured in four chapters. The first chapter offers a general overview of language teaching for children, underlining the reasons why introducing a foreign language from an early age is advantageous. The thesis continues in the second chapter dealing with some concepts and approaches that represent the basis for current language teaching, to then go on to underline in the third chapter the formative value of the language and the contribution that it can offer in the corporal and motor spheres. Finally, the fourth chapter presents an example of project in English with a group of five-year-old pupils, where the development of the body schema was promoted through a plurality of techniques and tools for introducing the English language.

La presente tesi “This is our body. Una proposta glottodidattica in lingua inglese per favorire lo sviluppo dello schema corporeo in una scuola dell’infanzia” intende approfondire il tema della didattica della lingua inglese in contesto prescolare, sottolineando la valenza formativa che questa possiede. Nello specifico viene dimostrato come attraverso un percorso in lingua inglese centrato sul corpo e sulle sue parti, è possibile promuovere non solo le competenze linguistiche ma anche lo sviluppo dello schema corporeo, favorendo allo stesso tempo un atteggiamento positivo nei confronti della lingua straniera. Il presente elaborato si struttura in quattro capitoli. Nel primo capitolo viene offerto un inquadramento generale sulla glottodidattica per l’infanzia, sottolineando le ragioni per cui risulta fruttuoso promuovere l’accostamento ad una lingua straniera già a partire dalla tenera età. La tesi prosegue trattando nel secondo capitolo alcuni concetti e approcci che hanno posto le basi per la glottodidattica attuale, per andare poi a sottolineare nel terzo capitolo la valenza formativa della lingua e il contributo che questa può offrire nell’ambito corporeo e motorio. Nel quarto capitolo viene infine presentato un esempio di percorso glottodidattico rivolto ad un gruppo di alunni di cinque anni, dove attraverso una pluralità di tecniche e strumenti di accostamento alla lingua inglese, e stato promosso lo sviluppo dello schema corporeo.
