Starting from the consideration of the role played by emotions for psychological wellbeing, this thesis focuses on the importance of teachers' social and emotional competences. Studies and research works carried out at international level on the subject have been consulted and reported. Teachers’ social and emotional competences act as a protective factor against stressful events (such as the Covid-19 pandemic period) and burnout and, moreover, promote students’ wellbeing and a more positive classroom climate. A roundup of the main theories on emotions highlights how fundamental is the development of these skills within the school context. A number of programs are also analysed to promote these skills among teachers: specific SEL programs to be presented to students and interventions focused on the teacher’s subjectivity and awareness. The aim is to make teachers able to better manage different situations and create a school environment more conducive to learning and wellbeing.
