This thesis explores the importance of Clausewitz’s work, particularly his famous treatise "The War", for understanding the nature of war and its implications on contemporary military strategy. The thesis begins with an introduction presenting the theme and objectives of the research, followed by the contextualization of Clausewitz’s work, "The War". The first section focuses on Clausewitz and strategic thinking. It provides a biography of Clausewitz and analyses the historical context in which he lived. The analysis deepens the philosophical and political influences that shaped his work, as well as the conception of war as a social and political phenomenon. The second part focuses on the nature of war. He explores the dialectic between politics and war, Clausewitz’s trinity and its importance to understanding war, considering it as a continuation of politics by other means. The third section deals with the limitations and criticisms of Clausewitz’s work. He examines the critical reception of the work and then focuses on Lennart Souchon’s view of the contemporary validity of Clausewitz’s work, on Aron Raymond’s analysis of Clausewitz’s influence on the theory of international relations and Peter Paret’s contribution to understanding the cultural dimension of Clausewitz’s work. He also takes into account René Girard’s views on violence and "mimesi" in war. The conclusion summarizes the thesis and the main conclusions reached. He also offers a reflection on the importance of Clausewitz’s work for understanding war and the political vision of war, considering the views expressed by Souchon, Raymond, Paret and Girard.
