After the 1979 revolution, the condition of women in Iran was drastically influenced by the social and legal restrictions imposed by Islamic authorities, which limited the freedom and rights of Iranian women. Mandatory dress laws and systematic discrimination became a daily reality for Iranian women. The killing of Masha Amini by the Iranian morality police in September 2022 was a significant turning point, unleashing a wave of activism and solidarity among Iranian women who found the strength to fight for their rights and freedom. This sparked the "Women, Life, Freedom" movement, garnering international attention, including from the Italian press. However, media representations are often influenced by cultural stereotypes, biases, and simplifications, distorting the understanding of the unfolding events and, in the case in point, of the complexity and diversity of Iranian women's experiences. This thesis aims to critically analyze the italian media representation of women's protests in Iran, examining selected articles, and explore the use of social media as a tool to spread information about the protests through alternative channels compared to traditional media. The objective is to understand how media representation influences the opinions, attitudes, and beliefs of the Italian public towards Iranian women and their struggle for rights.

Abstract
The objective is to understand how media representation influences the opinions, attitudes, and beliefs of the Italian public towards Iranian women and their struggle for rights.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
