The Non-Aligned Movement emerged as a group of countries that did not align with any of the two opposite blocs during the Cold War, the communist and the capitalist bloc. Since its foundation in 1961, the movement has dealt with numerous changes and challenges. This thesis aims to analyze the historical and contemporary relevance of the Non-Aligned Movement and its relations with the European Union, focusing on the reasons why these two international actors had common or dissimilar interests and goals, as well as how those relations developed over the years. Through this analysis, this thesis aims to contribute to a better understanding of the role of the Non-Aligned Movement in shaping global politics.

Abstract

The Non-Aligned Movement emerged as a group of countries that did not align with any of the two opposite blocs during the Cold War, the communist and the capitalist bloc. This thesis aims to analyze the historical and contemporary relevance of the Non-Aligned Movement and its relations with the European Union, focusing on the reasons why these two international actors had common or dissimilar interests and goals, as well as how those relations developed over the years.
