The responsiveness crisis of modern democracies and the consequent dissatisfaction growing among democratic citizens have brought up several questions regarding democracy itself: is it still the most desirable form of government? Which characteristics make it indispensable? Can we find in democracy the answers to our modern needs? Lithuania seems to have found its answers to these matters. Through the analysis of its process of democratisation (specifically, transition to and consolidation of democracy) this study intends to shed light on the potential of democracy of intersecting key issues and divisions regarding economic, political, and social matters, with the goal of shedding new light on the adaptability of democracy and on its possible relevance in facing the challenges of modernity.

Abstract
The responsiveness crisis of modern democracies and the consequent dissatisfaction growing among democratic citizens have brought up several questions regarding democracy itself: is it still the most desirable form of government? Which characteristics make it indispensable? Can we find in democracy the answers to our modern needs? Lithuania seems to have found its answers to these matters. Through the analysis of its process of democratisation (specifically, transition to and consolidation of democracy) this study intends to shed light on the potential of democracy of intersecting key issues and divisions regarding economic, political, and social matters, with the goal of shedding new light on the adaptability of democracy and on its possible relevance in facing the challenges of modernity.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
