This thesis is part of a larger school-based intervention called the Identity Project, which aims to promote the development of cultural identity and positive relationships among adolescents with and without migrant backgrounds. Participants involved in the research are secondary school students from multiethnic classes, which were divided into intervention group and control group. Here we investigate the effect of the Project's activities on the exploration and the resolution of cultural identity and on the intercultural competence in its dimensions of motivation, behavior, cognition and metacognition. Them we examine the role of migration background in determining differences in the considered variables. Finally, quantitative data are supplemented with qualitative results collected from focus groups with students and teachers.
