Social introduction has been used in animals kept in captivity for various reason like breeding, establishing new groups, or in post-rescue scenarios to reinstate social behaviour. There are different ways to introduce animals depending on the order they belong to. The staff following the introduction, needs to prepare a protocol and consider different factors that can influence it. In this thesis I will go into details on the introduction of Primates. Starting by analysing the social systems, which is a combination on three factors: social organization, social structure, and mating system. Going into the different methods of introducing primates and the factors that needs to be considered. Continuing with the success rates of introduction in different species. Looking into the risks that the introduction can have, like aggression that can lead to injuries. And in the end, I will talk about one successful introduction in chimpanzees and one comparison between a failed and a successful introduction in stump-tailed macaques.

Abstract
And in the end, I will talk about one successful introduction in chimpanzees and one comparison between a failed and a successful introduction in stump-tailed macaques.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
