Atrial fibrillation is a heart rhythm disturbance that originates from the atria of the heart. It is a very pathophysiologically and clinically complex electrical pathology of the atria, is often multifactorial, and always has two characteristics :rapid and chaotic electrical activation of atrial tissue and very high thromboembolic risk. Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia in the general population and its prevalence tends to increase with advancing age, in fact it affects 1.5-2% of the general population in developed countries. This condition also greatly increases the risk of stroke, which is associated with a higher chance of death and disability, a longer hospitalization period, and a lower chance for the patient to return home. The most widely used therapy to prevent complications is anticoagulation. Therapeutic education by the nurse for these patients is essential to avoid complications related to mismanagement of therapy and inappropriate lifestyle.
