This paper will examine Venezuelan-US relations in the period between the end of the dictatorship of the military regime of Pérez Jiménez and the nationalization of the Venezuelan oil industry. The period covered is inscribed in the framework of the Cold War years, in which a set of dynamics intersect inextricably in the logic of the division of the globe according to the bipolar model. The United States and Venezuela, during this period, lead significant relations from several points of view, from the economic and commercial to the political one. At the same time, however, Venezuela will turn its attention to the search for new commercial partners and to measures aimed at promoting the economic and social development of the country through the enhancement of the national oil sector.
