This thesis examines the therapeutic path of a group of Brazilian children aged between 9 and 13 years. The aim of the research is to observe how participating in the therapeutic group influenced the emotional awareness and management of the children. Firstly, the concept of emotion and emotional development was analysed in order to elucidate the functional and maladaptive mechanisms that can have an impact on children's emotional growth. Furthermore, the most recent practices in the field of child group therapy and the effects that have emerged from the research are presented. The study analyses the structure of the Brazilian public mental health system and the functioning of psychosocial care centers (CAPS), particularly the one dedicated to minors in which this research was carried out. A number of recurring themes emerged from the thematic and descriptive analysis of the evidence, which identified certain trends during the course of the sessions. Firstly, it emerges that the children went through a learning process in the recognition of emotions. The emotion recognised and expressed most frequently was anger together with fear. Furthermore, the feeling of shame hindered the participants' free expression. Finally, the emotion regulation strategies that captured the children's attention the most were diaphragmatic breathing for anger management and cognitive reappraisal to handle feelings of sadness.
