Background: The disease condition in society has been able to change over time, including not only the physical aspect of the problem, but also the psychological one. Within the field of allergic pathologies, mainly IgE mediate we often find a symptomatology that often affects patients at a young age. In the domain of eye allergies, vernal keratoconjunctivitis is a chronic allergic disease that mainly affects school-aged children with onset in their first decade of life. This disease can be a real source of discomfort and discomfort for patients who are affected and is usually manifested from the first spring months, to persist throughout the summer and even autumn. Precisely because it affects young patients, children and adolescents, and usually has a long-term symptomatic duration, it becomes a disease with a great impact on the quality of life of both the patient, but also of his family or his caregivers. In fact, those who take care of these patients have a central role in the management and treatment of pathology: often it is those who notice the symptoms complained of by the patient, They are aimed at specialists and are concerned with the good management of treatment and adherence to therapy. Purpose: understanding the influence of this problem on the affected population, This paper aims to analyze the psychological and social aspects of the families of patients suffering from this allergic eye disease through a review of scientific literature. Another purpose of this study is to propose a useful tool for the evaluation of the psychological condition of family members/ caregivers during the course of treatment. Materials and methods: This study weighs the aspects of the psychological condition in in different framework; fistly systemic allergic pathologies were evaluated, to make a comparison with those with ocular manifestation, in particular with vernal keratoconjunctivitis. Subsequently, in order to evaluate the overall VKC patients, a review of the literature studies was carried out to assess the quality of life of these patients. Results and conclusions: The evaluations carried out by the different studies used as a tool some questionnaires, evaluated and created in order to assess the different aspects and criticalities of the disease. The psychological aspects of anxiety, stress, depression and the influence of pathology in the daily life of children and caregivers were evaluated in the evaluation of pathologies with non-ocular manifestation, denoting psychological alterations in the totality of the samples, especially in the aspects of anxiety and depression. This condition is also found in the sample of patients with spring keratoconjunctivitis. In addition, by analysing the quality of life questionnaires (HRQoL), the use of the QUICK test, a questionnaire created to analyse patients with Vernal keratoconjunctivitis.
Background: La condizione di malattia all’interno della società nel tempo è stata capace di mutarsi e di riuscire ad includere non solo l’aspetto della problematica fisica, ma anche quella psicologica. All’interno dell’ambito delle patologie allergiche, prevalentemente IgE mediate ritroviamo spesso una sintomatologia che colpisce i pazienti in giovane età. Nel campo delle allergie oculari la cheratocongiuntivite primaverile è una patologia allergica cronica che colpisce prevalentemente i bambini in età scolare con insorgenza nel loro primo decennio di vita. Questa malattia può rappresentare una vera fonte di fastidio e disagio per i pazienti che ne sono affetti e si manifesta solitamente dai primi mesi primaverili, per persistere durante tutta l’estate e addirittura l’autunno. Proprio perché colpisce pazienti giovani, bambini e adolescenti, ed ha solitamente una durata sintomatologica di lungo periodo, diventa una malattia dal grande impatto sulla qualità della vita sia del paziente, ma anche della sua famiglia o dei suoi caregiver. Infatti, chi si prende cura di questi pazienti ha un ruolo centrale nella gestione e trattamento della patologia: spesso sono coloro che si accorgono dei sintomi lamentati dal paziente, che si rivolgono agli specialisti e che si occupano della buona gestione del trattamento e dell’adesione alla terapia. Scopo: Comprendendo l’influenza che questo problema rappresenta nella popolazione colpita, questa tesi si pone come obiettivo quello di analizzare l’aspetto psicologico e sociale sulle famiglie dei pazienti affetti da questa patologia oculare allergica attraverso una revisione della letteratura scientifica. Ulteriore scopo di questo studio è quello di proporre uno strumento utile alla valutazione della condizione psicologica dei familiari/caregiver durante il percorso di cura. Materiali e metodi: Questo elaborato pondera gli aspetti della condizione psicologica in una pluralità di ambiti; si sono valutate in primis le patologie allergiche sistemiche, allo scopo di compiere un confronto con quelle a manifestazione oculare, in particolare con cheratocongiuntivite primaverile. In seguito, sempre al fine di valutare complessivamente i pazienti affetti da VKC, si è fatta una revisione degli studi di letteratura utili alla valutazione della qualità di vita di questi pazienti. Risultati e conclusioni: Le valutazioni effettuate dai diversi studi hanno impiegato come strumento alcuni questionari, utilizzati al fine di valutare i diversi aspetti e criticità della malattia. Nella valutazione di patologie con manifestazione non oculare si sono ponderati gli aspetti psicologici di ansia, stress, depressione e influenza della patologia nella vita quotidiana dei bambini e dei caregiver, denotando nella totalità dei campioni, delle alterazioni psicologiche, soprattutto negli aspetti di ansia e depressione. Tale condizione ha un riscontro anche nel campione di pazienti affetto da cheratocongiuntivite primaverile. Analizzando inoltre i questionari per l’analisi della qualità di vita (HRQoL) si è rivelato funzionale l’impiego del QUICK test, un questionario creato al fine di analizzare i pazienti affetti da cheratocongiuntivite primaverile.
