A number of studies in the literature demonstrate the clinical relevance of control-related constructs. In Clark's (2004) theory of cognitive control of obsessions, the central role of maladaptive beliefs in interpreting intrusive thoughts as relevant and significant is highlighted, and consequently how they can influence the development and maintenance of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Following this, Radomsky and Gagné (2020) developed a questionnaire to assess beliefs about loss of control: the Beliefs About Losing Control Inventory (BALCI), in order to demonstrate that maladaptive beliefs play a role in the development and maintenance especially in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), but also in other disorders including Panic Disorder (DAP). In OCD symptomatology, there appear to be beliefs and fears of losing control of one's thoughts, emotions, and body (Radomsky and Gagné, 2020). In DAP, the fear of losing control is evident in the aspect of bodily functions. People with this disorder may have misinterpretations about losing control of their physiological sensations.

Abstract
People with this disorder may have misinterpretations about losing control of their physiological sensations.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
