This paper examines the difference between the nutrition declaration used in the EU and the US system, while highlighting their differences, similarities, strengths and weaknesses. A nutrition declaration is an important tool to convey a message to the consumer and to ensure that they get accurate and understandable information while safeguarding their safety. This thesis has been written in accordance to the existing laws in the EU and the US and specifically Regulation (EU) no. 1169/2011 and Title CFR 21. In the end, the idea of a unified internationally used nutrition declaration is suggested to make it easier for consumers to compare products all around the world and to be able to understand them anywhere without the need to convert or search for the meaning. This suggestion opens the door for future research to check the feasibility on a legal level as well as on a technical level.
