Working in incurable and end-of-life contexts, coming into contact with the suffering of the sick individuals and their experiences, as well as those of their respective families, and approaching the concept of death and its processing, represents a significant emotional and relational expenditure for healthcare professionals. This can lead to critical issues in their daily lives. In this research, we aim to investigate the experiences of psychologists and psychotherapists who work in palliative care settings, analyzing how these experiences impact their professional and personal lives and how they cope with them. We will interview 19 psychotherapists working in extended palliative care settings across the national territory, involving Northern, Central, and Southern Italy, in order to analyze the following constructs: ambiguous/vicarious grief, moral injury, compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction, emotional labor, and critical incident.

In this research, we aim to investigate the experiences of psychologists and psychotherapists who work in palliative care settings, analyzing how these experiences impact their professional and personal lives and how they cope with them. We will interview 19 psychotherapists working in extended palliative care settings across the national territory, involving Northern, Central, and Southern Italy, in order to analyze the following constructs: ambiguous/vicarious grief, moral injury, compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction, emotional labor, and critical incident.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
