This investigation aims to offer a critical perspective on the use of cultural festivals for the regeneration of a complex neighborhood whose residency has been disrupted by several phenomena, including migration and, over the past fifteen years, the mass arrival of students. Detailing the social impacts of studentification in the Portello suburb of Padua, a university town in northern Italy, the research emphasizes the importance of governing the fragile balance that has come to be established between the external and "host" population, making a journey that starts from the analysis of the city as a system, passing through the presentation of the concepts of territorial government, attractiveness, dwelling on the critical aspects that the rhetoric of the "festivalization" of cities brings with it. The analysis focuses on the River Film Festival, a cultural initiative established in 2004 to create dialogue in a constantly changing urban community.
