In this thesis it is proposed a study on medieval kingship with reference to the works of the historian Ernst H. Kantorowicz. More specifically, it shows the concept of royalty as it was thought in the common sense and the evolution of it over time. Moreover, it explores the foundation of the very concept of royalty and the way in which the king was perceived as a perpetual entity. The thesis follows two of the main works of Kantorowicz: “The King’s two bodies” and “Laudes regiae” and it explains the connections between these works, paying particular attention to the political concepts expressed in the former, and their reflection on the rituality described in the latter.

Abstract
In this thesis it is proposed a study on medieval kingship with reference to the works of the historian Ernst H. Kantorowicz. More specifically, it shows the concept of royalty as it was thought in the common sense and the evolution of it over time. Moreover, it explores the foundation of the very concept of royalty and the way in which the king was perceived as a perpetual entity. The thesis follows two of the main works of Kantorowicz: “The King’s two bodies” and “Laudes regiae” and it explains the connections between these works, paying particular attention to the political concepts expressed in the former, and their reflection on the rituality described in the latter.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
