Memorie del popolo Mapuche. Trecento anni di lotta e resistenza.

The research was conducted in order to raise awareness of the history of the Mapuche people, an indigenous population of Chile, who for years struggled to maintain their independence and not to suffer the Europeization by the spanish "conquistadores". In the first chapter, the project focuses on the cultural, geographical and social aspects of the population, in order to understand their habits and customs before the arrival of the Spanish, and on some attempts of evangelisation. The second chapter focuses on the figures of some of the most important spanish "conquistadores" and on some Mapuche's heroes, in order to reach the narrative of the Arauco war and its consequences. The third and final chapter tells about the changes the war brought in the society and the so-called "pacification" of Araucanía. The entire work aims to give notice of the history of this population that has survived until this day, with some reflections on the tenacity of their resistance and identity as a community.

La ricerca della tesi è stata condotta con l'obiettivo di far conoscere la storia del popolo Mapuche, una popolazione indigena del Cile, che per anni ha lottato per mantenere la propria indipendenza e per non subire l'europeizzazione da parte dei “conquistadores” spagnoli. Nel primo capitolo il progetto si concentra sugli aspetti culturali, geografici e sociali tipici della popolazione, in maniera tale da comprendere i loro usi e costumi prima dell'arrivo degli spagnoli, e su alcuni tentativi di evangelizzazione. Il secondo capitolo si focalizza sulle figure di alcuni tra i più importanti "conquistadores" spagnoli ed alcuni eroi mapuche, per poi giungere alla narrazione della guerra di Arauco e le sue conseguenze. Il terzo ed ultimo capitolo racconta dei cambiamenti che avvennero all'interno società mapuche dopo la guerra e la cosiddetta "pacificazione" dell'Araucanía. L'intero lavoro ha lo scopo rendere nota la storia di questa popolazione che è sopravvissuta fino ad oggi, accompagnato da delle riflessioni riguardo la tenacia della loro resistenza e identità come popolo.
