This dissertation aims to explore in depth the contributions of American activists and former slaves Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman. Within this context, we will address issues related to sex and race discrimination by analyzing the abolitionist and women's rights movements. A brief general presentation will be given on abolitionism and the lives of Truth and Tubman, seeking to explore how these aspects are intertwined. We will delve into their legacy, which has often been misconstrued and subjectable to misperceptions, and examine how this issue impacts black women more broadly. Subsequently, the discussion will encompass their contributions to the feminist movement and the fight for women’s suffrage, as well as the challenges faced by numerous women who shared similar experiences. Finally, we will direct our attention towards the future, and consider the responsibilities that lie ahead in preserving the memory of Truth and Tubman. This discussion will provide a multifaceted approach, including abolitionism education, children's books for younger audiences, and educational resources such as books, museums, and memorials for older audiences. Overall, this work is created to offer a 360-degree perspective on Truth and Tubman's past, to acknowledge the often inaccurate contemporary perceptions of their actions, and to emphasize the collective responsibility we share in securing an accurate remembrance for the future.
