The aim of this thesis is to analyse the characteristics and narrative choices used by the Colombian writer Pablo Montoya in his acclaimed historical novel 'Tríptico de la infamia' to describe and make the reader feel the essence of violence as a theme. For this analysis, the first chapter will consider the author's life, his literary influences and, above all, how the theme of violence impacted his life. In the second chapter, through the analysis of the novel, an attempt will be made to show how artistic depiction, narrative techniques and character introspection can reveal the aesthetics of violence. In this regard, the ekphrastic descriptions the author uses to link the narrated events to the theme of violence will also be considered. In the third chapter, it will be shown how the brutal and inevitable nature of violence underlies human beings and their ideals, and how in the face of the pain and suffering generated, only the permanence of memory is the only means to alleviate its harmful effects and give humanity hope. In this regard, the historical context of the novel will be analysed and how art deals with the most grim reality and also how it can go beyond simply reviving the memory of the victims, even managing to act as a bridge between different identities, granting them greater empathy and a less violent future relationship.
