Profili storico-letterari del poema religioso anglosassone “Il Sogno della Croce”: il caso della Croce di Ruthwell.

The purpose of my research entitled “Historical and literary outlines of the Anglo-Saxon religious poem The Dream of the Rood: the case study of the Ruthwell Cross” aims to deal with the correlation between the Scottish monument and the religious poem contained in the Vercelli Book, analysing the iconography and epigraphy of the cross in order to study the bond with the literary work. In order to understand the bond between them, the first chapter is about the origins of early Anglo-Saxon literature, presenting the population of the Angles, Saxons and Jutes and the literary production of the four codices of the late tenth century. The second part deals with the Vercelli Book, studying the poetic text “The Dream of the Cross”, which is the starting point of my research. These sections thus make it possible to find out that there is actually a correlation between the Cross and the poem.

L’attività di ricerca dal titolo “Profili storico-letterari del poema religioso anglosassone, Il Sogno della Croce: il caso della Croce di Ruthwell” ha lo scopo di trattare il rapporto tra il monumento scozzese e il poema religioso contenuto nel Vercelli Book, analizzando l’iconografia e l’epigrafia della croce per studiare il legame con l’opera letteraria. Per capire il legame fra di essi, il primo capitolo ripercorre le origini della letteratura anglosassone antica, presentando nello specifico la popolazione degli Angli, dei Sassoni e degli Juti e la produzione letteraria dei quattro codici della fine del X sec. Nella seconda parte si tratta più dettagliatamente uno di essi, il Vercelli Book soffermandosi sul testo poetico “Il Sogno della Croce”, punto di partenza della mia ricerca. Queste tappe permettono così di giungere alla conclusione in cui si mostra l’effettiva correlazione fra la Croce e l’opera.
