With the publication of "Epistemic Injustice: Power and the Ethics of Knowing," in 2007 Miranda Fricker proposed a theorization of epistemic injustice. I will discuss its definition, and how it lies at the intersection of ethics, epistemology, feminist thought, and politics. In addition, I will analyze the two characterizations of epistemic injustice presented by the author: hermeneutic injustice and testimonial injustice. I will deal specifically with an extreme case of the latter, silencing. It enjoys much attention in feminist epistemology and I will bring a comparison of several contemporary authors who have discussed it interfacing with Fricker's thought.

Abstract
With the publication of "Epistemic Injustice: Power and the Ethics of Knowing," in 2007 Miranda Fricker proposed a theorization of epistemic injustice. I will discuss its definition, and how it lies at the intersection of ethics, epistemology, feminist thought, and politics. In addition, I will analyze the two characterizations of epistemic injustice presented by the author: hermeneutic injustice and testimonial injustice. I will deal specifically with an extreme case of the latter, silencing. It enjoys much attention in feminist epistemology and I will bring a comparison of several contemporary authors who have discussed it interfacing with Fricker's thought.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
