Starting from June 14, 1940, the date of the German Occupation of France, the civilians of Paris became increasingly exposed to tragic and extremely difficult situations, such as forced evacuations, poverty, contact with death, and frequent air raids. Paris, repeatedly bombed, was transformed, as were the psychological and emotional conditions of its citizens, who experienced this period while exhibiting symptoms of psychotraumatic crises. This thesis investigates, from a comparative perspective, how such traumas were described in the literature of this historical moment. This will be possible through the examination of the case of Irène Némirovsky and her work "Suite française," around which numerous pages of diary and preparatory notes revolve, and of Simone de Beauvoir, author of novels like "L'invitée" and "Le Sang des autres," set during the occupation, as well as an autobiography and a diary that narrates these tragic events.

Abstract
Starting from June 14, 1940, the date of the German Occupation of France, the civilians of Paris became increasingly exposed to tragic and extremely difficult situations, such as forced evacuations, poverty, contact with death, and frequent air raids. Paris, repeatedly bombed, was transformed, as were the psychological and emotional conditions of its citizens, who experienced this period while exhibiting symptoms of psychotraumatic crises. This thesis investigates, from a comparative perspective, how such traumas were described in the literature of this historical moment. This will be possible through the examination of the case of Irène Némirovsky and her work "Suite française," around which numerous pages of diary and preparatory notes revolve, and of Simone de Beauvoir, author of novels like "L'invitée" and "Le Sang des autres," set during the occupation, as well as an autobiography and a diary that narrates these tragic events.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
