Le trasformazioni della "Democrazia di Dio" : la religione civile tra Bush e Trump

Throughout history humankind often felt the need to have certain values that would help them create a sense of national identity oriented towards collective wellbeing and the progress of the Nation. This role was usually assigned to the authority of religion. With enlightenment we can see a change of perspective in which the individual is put at the center with particular attention given to freedom and the system of values shifts form the religious aspect to the social and political one. This process brings us to the concept of "Civil Religion". This fenomena evolves with society becoming one of the greatest, and also the most underestimated, indicators of the electoral behaviors of a country and a big help for future legislators in creating successful electoral campaigns.

Spesso nella storia si è avvertita la necessità di un sistema di valori che aiutasse l’instaurazione di un’identità nazionale orientata al benessere collettivo e al progresso dello Stato, ruolo solitamente assunto dall’autorità religiosa. Grazie al cambiamento di prospettiva dato dal pensiero illuminista e la nuova centralità data all’individuo e alle sue libertà si cerca di spostare questo sistema di valori su un piano prettamente politico e sociale arrivando al concetto nuovo di “religione civile”. Questo fenomeno evolve assieme alla società fino ad arrivare all’epoca contemporanea, diventando uno dei più importanti, e allo stesso tempo sottovalutati, indicatori del comportamento elettorale di un popolo nazionale. Diventa inoltre per i legislatori uno strumento molto utile per elaborare una campagna elettorale vincente.
