This thesis work aims to assess the macroinvertebrate community of Padua canals, in order to evaluate the quality of their waters and ecosystem, keeping as a reference the Water Framework Directive (WFD) 2000/60/EC of the European Union. The thesis is part of a series of monitoring works carried out by the University of Padua in previous years and which still continues, in a relevant context from an ecological point of view and as a place of direct interest for the citizenship due to its monumental, landscape and recreational value. In the study, the monitoring of the macrobenthic component was carried out on the basis of the ISPRA guidelines, drawn up following the Directive 2000/60/EC. The monitoring was performed in three different stations, distributed in order to assess the urban hydrographic network quality and capture the city's influence on its canals. Some complementary environmental parameters were also monitored. These different types of data have been related in order to give a profile of the macroinvertebrate community and of the environmental quality of the urban canals of Padua.

Abstract
These different types of data have been related in order to give a profile of the macroinvertebrate community and of the environmental quality of the urban canals of Padua.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
