This work involved the sedimentological-petrographic study of the Villa Contarini 1 core drilled in Piazzola sul Brenta (PD). The core, presently stored in the Department of Geosciences, has a length of approximately 100 m and was described by Dr. G. Monegato and S. Rossato of the IGG CNR. Mineralogical and petrographic analyses were performed on sand samples taken at different depths with the aim of comparing their composition with other cores in the province. The analysis was performed following the Gazzi-Dickinson counting method, which consists in analyzing a statistically reliable number of grains under an optical microscope, identifying and classifying them according to categories that consider the mineralogical composition (quartz, feldspars, lithic fragments and carbonate fragments) and the origin of the rock fragments (metamorphic, volcanic, sedimentary). Considering these categories, parameters were calculated to present the results obtained in ternary diagrams, and compare them with those of other studies (Rossato et al., 2018; Marcolla et al., 2021b). Thanks to these diagrams and the analysis of the heavy minerals associations it was possible to evaluate the variations in sedimentary contributions over time in the Piazzola sul Brenta area and to outline the variations in the trajectories of some rivers during the late Pleistocene-Holocene in the area.

Abstract
Thanks to these diagrams and the analysis of the heavy minerals associations it was possible to evaluate the variations in sedimentary contributions over time in the Piazzola sul Brenta area and to outline the variations in the trajectories of some rivers during the late Pleistocene-Holocene in the area.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
