In the following thesis, we aimed to evaluate the mechanical properties of the Achilles tendon. To best describe its behavior, we referenced articles and research available within the scientific literature. Specifically, studies concerning the characterization of the tendon in vitro, using samples taken from cadavers, as well as in vivo tests where the tendon is analyzed within its physiological environment, were considered. Consequently, results related to fundamental parameters for describing the mechanical action of materials, such as stiffness, the Young's modulus, and hysteresis area, were reported. Overall, a general overview of the Achilles tendon was provided, initially outlining its anatomical and microstructural aspects. This was followed by highlighting its attributes from a mathematical-engineering perspective, including an analysis of its mechanical properties.
Nella seguente tesi ci siamo posti l'obiettivo di valutare le proprietà meccaniche del tendine d’Achille. Per descrivere al meglio il suo comportamento si è fatto riferimento ad articoli e ricerche presenti all’interno della letteratura scientifica, in particolar modo sono stati presi in considerazione studi sia inerenti ad una caratterizzazione del tendine in vitro, quindi tramite l’uso di campioni prelevati da cadaveri, sia di prove in vivo dove il tendine è analizzato all’interno del suo ambiente fisiologico. Di conseguenza sono stati riportati i risultati relativi a parametri fondamentali per la descrizione dell’azione meccanica dei materiali quali: rigidezza, il modulo di Young e area di isteresi. Nel complesso è stato fornito un quadro generale sul tendine d’Achille illustrandone in primo luogo gli aspetti anatomici e microstrutturali per poi proseguire evidenziandone gli attributi dal punto di vista matematico-ingegneristico, con un'analisi delle proprietà meccaniche.
