The following report will be focused on the octogen, called also HMX. This compound, originally identified as a reaction by-product, has finally become one of the most used explosives both in the civil and military world, thanks to its exceptional properties, that make it an essential chemical in today’s war industry. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the structure, the characteristics and the synthesis of this high explosive, focusing in particular on the aspects that make its production so difficult. The industrial plant viewed will be described and, briefly, there will be an introduction on the study done to determine the risks and possible accidents connected to the production. In the end, some alternative processes will be examined. If developed, they could represent a much more substainable synthesis for the HMX.

Abstract
If developed, they could represent a much more substainable synthesis for the HMX.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
