The present study investigates different approaches used to teaching grammar in communicative language teaching in Albanian classrooms. The primary objective of Albania’s English Language School Program is to give students the ability to communicate effectively by using the main methodology which is the Communicative Approach. The study acknowledges the communicative nature of the English language and investigates the perceptions and experiences of English language instructors to facilitate its instruction. The context lies in the growing significance of English as a global language and the need to help Albanian students with effective communication skills by exploring information about teachers’ pedagogical practices and challenges they might have encountered. This study aims to address the following research questions: What different approaches are used when teaching grammar in Albanian classrooms with the ultimate aim of facilitating communicative competence in the English language? How does the role of English as a global “lingua franca” impact teachers’ approaches in Albanian middle and high schools? This is tested based on a questionnaire survey and an interview administered to middle and high schools in Albania. The findings aim to contribute to the pedagogical discourse to inform best practices for future language education by analyzing classroom practices and obtaining feedback from teachers in Albania.
