Hermann Nitsch is a Viennese artist belonging to the avant-garde movements of the second half of the twentieth century. He develops a poetic approach that revolves around the fusion of arts, Freudian abreaction processes, and Greek theater. His significant connection is with the city of Naples and his curator-friend Giuseppe Morra. The pinnacle of his artistic career comes with the conception of the Theater of Orgies and Mysteries. This idea materializes in the form of multi-day performances involving craftsmen, composers, and set designs, gradually becoming more elaborate over time. The theater, due to the material presented, faces harsh criticism for the depicted brutality. In fact, the artist includes nudity, the use of blood almost as if it were paint, and animal carcasses in these performances. The purpose of this thesis revolves around the analysis of these both gruesome and complex and intricate performances and the psychology behind the artist.
