This paper examines how violence against women is portrayed in the British press. More specifically, it focuses on analysing the language used to depict this type of news. An overview of what language is, its relationship with power and control, and how it is used in newspapers is therefore provided, alongside what violence against women is, in what forms it may occur, and some data on the phenomenon. Through a linguistic analysis of several newspaper articles from different years, carried out with the help of software such as Sketch engine, this thesis has uncovered how the British press covers the topic of violence against women.
