The thesis will focus on the bilateral relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with a particular emphasis on the proxy war in Yemen. The first chapter will delve into the historical and religious background of both parties and its significance in the modern era, analyzing the concept of sectarianism and its nuances, ultimately outlining the relations between the two nations up to 1979. Subsequent chapters will describe the bilateral relations of the late 20th century and the early years of the new millennium, with a specific focus on the Khomeyni era, the Iraq war, and the Arab Spring. The final chapter will center on the Yemeni conflict, providing an analysis of its history and the implications of Iran and Saudi Arabia.

La tesi si occuperà dei rapporti bilaterali tra la Repubblica Islamica dell’Iran e il Regno dell’Arabia Saudita, con un particolare focus sulla guerra per procura in Yemen. Il primo capitolo tratterà il retroterra storico-religioso delle due parti e la sua importanza in epoca moderna, analizzando il concetto del settarismo e le sue sfumature, arrivando a delineare i rapporti tra le due nazioni fino al 1979. I capitoli successivi si dedicheranno a descrivere le relazioni bilaterali degli ultimi decenni del ‘900 e dei primi del nuovo millennio, in particolare l’epoca di Khomeyni, la guerra in Iraq e le Primavere Arabe. L’ultimo capitolo avrà come focus il conflitto yemenita, offrendo un analisi della sua storia e le implicazioni di Iran e Arabia.
