The digital domain is nowadays undergoing a progressive process of integration into the functioning of democracy, and this carries both possibilities for innovation, as well as potential threats. Hate speech is among the latter and, through various dynamics, targets minorities and potentially censors, either directly or indirectly, their voices within the democratic process. This work analyses the issue through the lenses of the gender perspective, concerning itself with the condition of women in politics and the media, where decisions fundamental to the healthy functioning of democracy are both taken and narrated. Through a European case study, the attempt is to understand how digital constitutionalism, gender studies and democratic innovations can come together to improve the health of democratic process.

Abstract
The digital domain is nowadays undergoing a progressive process of integration into the functioning of democracy, and this carries both possibilities for innovation, as well as potential threats. Hate speech is among the latter and, through various dynamics, targets minorities and potentially censors, either directly or indirectly, their voices within the democratic process. This work analyses the issue through the lenses of the gender perspective, concerning itself with the condition of women in politics and the media, where decisions fundamental to the healthy functioning of democracy are both taken and narrated. Through a European case study, the attempt is to understand how digital constitutionalism, gender studies and democratic innovations can come together to improve the health of democratic process.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
